Hamel adopted a Business District Redevelopment Plan that was designed to fund massive utility improvements throughout the project area, which is located adjacent to the I-55 interchange. The Redevelopment Plan was also intended to stimulate new retail and retain existing retail development within the community. The resulting Plan recruited a Love’s Travel Center and McDonald’s to the community.
